Facebook and Instagram Ad Image and Video Sizes 2019 | Simple Guide
What you can do with creative for Facebook and Instagram can change from year to year. For instance, it was just late last year (2018) that Facebook introduced the ability to use square images in the newsfeed!
To keep you up to date with Facebook and Instagram advertising specs, we’ve put together this simple guide of sizes for all placements.
Facebook and Instagram Ad Image and Video Specs 2019With the cool new feature added late last year to use different ad images or video for different ad placements, you can now have correctly formatted creative for other placements like Instagram, Stories, and more. This will make it easier for your ads to be shown across the whole network with ease.
Here’s our guide to Facebook and Instagram ad specs:
Facebook Standard Ad Image SizeThis is the standard ad size that you’re probably used to. This size is optimized for display in the newsfeed, right-hand column, messenger, and pretty much everywhere else. If you’re going static on everything other than Instagram feed or stories, this is the size you want to use. Note that you also want to keep image text to a minimum or non-existent.
NORMAL SIZE: 1200 x 628 Pixels
NEW SQUARE SIZE: 1200 x 1200 Pixels
TEXT ON AD: <20% or None
While most of these guides will tell you to go 16:9 aspect ratio, we’re going to tell you to ONLY go with a square video for feeds. Not only do they perform better, but they look and work great across the top Facebook and Instagram placements. We’re rebels.

Also, we can’t stress enough the importance of captions. You have to do it. It’s vital.
OUR RECOMMENDED VIDEO SIZE: 1200 x 1200 (1:1) Ratio
NORMAL VIDEO SIZE: 1920 x 1080 HD, 1200 x 720 HD
LENGTH: 120 Minutes (FB), 1 Minute (Instagram)
With carousel ads, you can showcase multiple images that link to multiple locations in one ad. These are really great for retargeting ads. One tip we like to share is that if you have a cool video, try it as the first card. Movement helps gain attention!

Facebook and Instagram Stories
If you’re going to run ads on the Stories placement, make sure you’re using the real estate as intended. We typically like to say to ditch static images here because if you run video it shows for a longer period of time. Even if you just want to turn your static image into a “static” video, it would be a good choice.

LENGTH: 15 Seconds
